Toby Zwikel is a principal at Brener Zwikel & Associates, the pre-eminent sports public relations firm in the U.S.. Both Zwikel and partner Steve Brener were publicity department colleagues at the Los Angeles Dodgers for seven years before leaving to launch their own independent firms, which partnered in 1991. (Brener was previously elected to the SCJSHOF.)
The partners resumed working with the Dodgers as a BZA client in 2012, assisting the team’s public relations department.
Toby’s first five years as a professional were as a newsman and sportscaster at WLBK radio in DeKalb, IL., then the United Press International in Chicago and Los Angeles. Prior to joining the Dodgers, he was a sportswriter and columnist for the L.A. Daily News, where he covered major sporting events.
Via his efforts with the Dodgers, the ball club won Major League Baseball’s Publications Award. Toby received the “Good Guy Award” from the Los Angeles-Anaheim chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Born in Chicago, Toby is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, where he did play-by-play of SIU football games, as well as regional high school basketball games for WDQN radio in DuQuoin, IL.
