Zimring, Valerie

Rhythmic Gymnastics - 1990

Valerie Zimring is a seven-time member of the United States National Team (1979-1985). She finished 11th at the All-Around at the 1984 Olympic Games—up to that time the highest-ever finish by an American in Olympic Rhythmic Gymnastics competition. Zimring was on the 1981-1983 USA World Championship teams and won the U.S. Nationals and Olympic trials in the All-Around in 1984.

In 1982, barely a teenager, Valerie won the All-Around U.S. Junior National Championship. She became the first American to win the All-Around competition in an International Rhythmic Gymnastic Event when she won the Austrian Invitational in 1983.

In 1985, Valerie captured 5 gold medals at the 12th World Maccabiah Games, including the All-Around title. She served as a member of the USA National Team coaching staff in 1987 – 1988.
