Neil Stone was varsity football and volleyball Coach at Locke High School, and varsity football, gymnastics (boys/girls), and baseball coach at Fairfax High from 1968 to 1982, when he retired from coaching. He was named “Coach of the Year” in 1978 by the Los Angeles Coaches Association, after his Fairfax boys gymnastics team won the City championship.
At Fairfax High, Stone’s gymnastics teams won one City championship, eight League titles (he only coached ten years), were City runners-up twice, and two other times reached the semi-finals. His gymnasts teams won 78 consecutive dual meets and had a won-loss record of 110-7. Four of his teams were named McDonald’s All-American Teams.
For all sports, Neil Stone’s overall coaching record is: 232-70-5.
Neil was also an outstanding athlete. Between 1959 and 1961, he was named to the All-City Baseball Team, selected to the All-Southern League Baseball Team, played in the All-City vs CIF baseball game in Wrigley Field, and was voted to the All-League Junior Varsity Basketball Team. At San Fernando State, he was a selected to the California Collegiate (CCAA) Conference Baseball Team.
