Stein, Marc

Media - 2016

Marc Stein is a Southern California native. He is a prominent alumnus of Cal State Fullerton and a product of local sports media before the launch of his ESPN national sports broadcasting career in 2002. This is his 15th season as a national NBA reporter for ESPN on various platforms, including Digital, Television and Radio. He is a frequent contributor to SportsCenter’s NBA coverage in addition to his writing duties for ESPN.com. Stein worked at the ‘Orange County Register’, ‘LA Daily News’ and ‘San Bernardino Sun’ before a five-year Dallas writing stint before moving to ESPN.

Stein has remained active in the Jewish community and is widely known in Israel through his ESPN work as well as his close ties to Israel’s Davis Cup tennis team. At the start of the 2015-16 season, he made his debut as a play-by-play announcer when he joined fellow SCJSHOF inductee David Blu on the call for ESPN’s online broadcast of a Maccabi Tel Aviv exhibition game played in Chicago. He began at age 16 covering SoCal high schools for the Saddleback Valley News while attending El Toro HS, then covered preps throughout his college years at the OC Register, starting at age 18. Marc was the recipient of CSF’s highest alumni honor in 2006 (known as the Vision & Visionaries award).
