Shapiro-Ikenberry, Judy

Track & Field - 2020

Judy Shapiro-Ikenberry attended UC Riverside in the 1960s — when women’s varsity sports were not a reality yet. Shapiro-Ikenberry found other places to thrive as a distance runner, including a 5th-place finish at the 1960 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 800-meter.

She ended up expanding to longer distances later in her career — becoming the first ever National Marathon Championship winner for women in 1974 with a time of 2:55:17.
