Water Polo - 2001

Defensive specialist Robert Myman and his team, the California Old Boys Water Polo Club, won the silver medal (45-and-over) at the World Masters Games in Brisbane, Australia in 1994, beginning a string of national and international medals for the veteran swimmers.

With team members including former Olympians, All-Americans, U.S. and European national team players, and one-time professionals, Myman’s Old Boys Club won silver medals at the U.S. National Championships in the 40-plus and 45-plus age groups. In 1998, they took the silver medal at the World Aquatics Masters championships in Morocco. In 1999, they earned a bronze medal in the Central European Water Polo Championships in Budapest. And this past year, the Old Boys won the silver medal at the 2000 World Aquatics Championships in Munich.

A ranked swimmer at Fairfax High School and member of the Westside JCC swim team, Myman turned to water polo (1963-1967) at California State University Northridge. A strong offensive and defensive player, he was named to the 1965 U.S. Maccabiah Games water polo team, and helped the Americans capture their first-ever Maccabiah water polo gold medal.
Myman continued to play AAU waterpolo while attending USC Law School, but eventually left the game to pursue a burgeoning entertainment law practice and film-TV producing career. He returned to the pool in the mid-1980s with the emergence of masters’ water polo programs throughout the United States, joining the group that is now the California Old Boys Club.
