Kuechel, Steve

Tennis - 2016

Steven Kuechel has been the Boy’s and Girl’s Tennis coach at Campbell Hall in North Hollywood for 32 years. Some of his top achievements include winning seven CIF team championships in Girl’s Tennis (including just winning the 2016 Division I crown), where four of the team championships came in Division 1. Four of the seven title teams went unbeaten and in 2010 he secured the CIF triple-crown--a Division 1 team championship, and individual singles and doubles titles for his school.

Kuechel was named the 2010 Coach of The Year by the California Coaches Association and was selected in 2010 as the Girl’s Tennis Coach of the Decade by the L.A. Daily News. He was picked as the 2013 High School Coach of the Year by the United States Professional Tennis Association, California Division. He coached five consecutive CIF Doubles Champions, a CIF Southern Section record, plus one individual title winner. Five of his players made the High School All-American team (three players won it two times in a row). He was featured in the Time-Warner Show ‘Game Changers’ as the Best High School Tennis Coach in 2014. This honor is special to Kuechel as his father was a Holocaust survivor.
