Kanner, Burt

Swimming - 1991

Burt Kanner built a swimming dynasty at San Marino (CA) High School over the past 29 years. His teams have captured seven CIF Championships, as well as numerous League titles. In 1990, Kanner was voted High School Swim Coach of the Year by the National High School Coaches Association. He has coached fifty high school All-Americans.

As an Occidental College undergraduate, Kanner held school records in all freestyle swimming events. And, he has set seven World Master Swimming records. Early in his coaching career, he led Cal Tech's AAU Swim Team to four Southern California League Championships.

Burt came to Southern California at an early age from New York. His son, Daniel Kanner, was a 1990 High School All-American swimmer and Olympic Festival record holder.
