Jason Hirsh pitched at La Canada’s St. Francis High School, starting out as a 5-11 rookie, making the All-CIF second team. Jason blossomed into a 6-8, 250-pound star pitcher at Cal Lutheran University, where he and his 97-mph fastball had a combined 26-6 record with a 2.96 ERA. He is still tied for career wins and holds the school record with 18 strikeouts in a game. He was twice named to the All-SCIAC first team, and in 2003, he was an ABCA All-West Region first-time selection.
He was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2003 draft by the Houston Astros. While still finishing his college degree, Jason was a dominant minor league right-hander in 2005 and 2006, and won the Double-A Texas League Pitcher of the Year and Triple-A Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year Awards (26-10 record) in successive seasons. He was the first to do that until 2022.
He made his big-league debut with the Houston Astros in August, 2006 and was traded in December 2006 to the Colorado Rockies where he was in the starting rotation with the 2007 team that went to the World Series. In 2008, Jason saw limited action due to injuries, and finished with a two season 8-11 record. In 2013, he retired due to his injuries.
He started the Jason Hirsch Pitching Academy in 2013, and is now the co-owner of ‘Fast Performance,’ where he brings over two decades of playing and coaching experience to help train youth, high school, college and professional athletes.
