Basketball - 1996

One of Southern California’s most highly regarded collegiate basketball coaches during the 1990s, Seth Greenberg was at the helm of the Long Beach State 49ers for five highly successful seasons.

LBSU became Greenberg’s first head coaching position in 1990, and he promptly turned the 49ers program around. Following an 11-17 debut in 1990-91, his teams enjoyed four consecutive winning seasons, never finishing with less than a .600 winning percentage. In 1991-92, he took Long Beach State to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). In 1992-93, the 49ers captured the Big West Conference Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. In 1993-94, LBSU’s thirteen BWC victories registered a single-season record for the campus basketball program.

Greenberg was offered the position as Long Beach State’s head basketball coach after serving three years as an assistant under LBSU’s Head Coach Joe Harrington. He had previously been an assistant coach on four other Division I staffs--at Miami (FL), Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Columbia.

A native of Plainview, New York, Seth was named to the “High School Basketball Yearbook” All America Team for the 1973-74 season, and played his college ball at Fairleigh Dickinson University, in Teaneck, New Jersey.
