Braun, Ryan

Baseball - 2010

Granada Hills’ Ryan Braun was the 2007 Major League Baseball National League Rookie of the Year. In 2008, and again in 2009, the Milwaukee Brewers star was the NL’s All Star Game starting left-fielder.

In 2008, Braun won the NL outfielders’ Silver Slugger Award, and in led the NL in hits in 2009.

Between his sophomore and senior years at Granada Hills High, Ryan never finished a season with less than a .421 batting average and .654 on-base percentage. He was a three-time Los Angeles Daily News and two-time L.A. Times all-area selection

A first team ‘Freshman All-American’ at the University of Miami, Ryan was named ‘National Freshman of the Year’ by Baseball America, and first team All America. Batting .396 in his junior college year (with a .726 slugging average) earned Ryan a spot as one of the finalists for the Golden Spikes Award, the most prestigious individual award in college baseball.

The Milwaukee Brewers drafted him 5th overall in the 2005 Amateur Baseball draft as a third baseman.
