Bleeker, Mel

Football - 2014

Mel Bleeker was USC’s quarterback, halfback and fullback 1940-42. He was also captain of the Trojan track team, and the NCAA’s Long Jump silver medalist for USC’s 1942 national championship team.

The one-time Fremont High School all-star played for the pro Los Angeles Bulldogs in 1943, Philadelphia Eagles 1944-46, and L.A. Rams in 1947.

Bleeker was the NFL’s top receiver in his rookie year (1944). He played both offensive and defensive halfback in NFL.
