Basketball - 1997

Howard Abrams has been Montclair Prep High School’s basketball coach since 1976. He was elected CIF Southern Section “Coach of the Year” in 1976, 1980, and 1996. The Los Angeles Times named him “Coach of the Year” in 1996.

Abram’s 21-year varsity basketball record (so far) is 393-143. His teams won CIF Southern Section titles 1976-77, 1980-81, and 1995-96. They were runners-up 1981-82 and 1994-95. Montclair won the 1994-95 California State Championship, and reached the finals in 1995-96.

Between 1986 and 1996, Howard’s North American Maccabi Youth Games basketball teams (boys, 15-16), in six competitions during that period, won three gold medals, a silver and a bronze.
