Shalhevet High School

Alex J. Rubel plays baseball for a Shalhevet High School squad that reached the CIF-SS Division VII playoffs in 2019, but his greatest achievements have come in sports journalism. Rubel is a Sports Editor for Shalhevet’s student newspaper — “The Boiling Point.” He most notably won a Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Circle Award for best news story by a high school newspaper in the 2018-19 year, when he broke news that Shalhevet’s varsity boys’ basketball team would refuse to play an opponent over an alleged cheating scandal.
